The Japanese car manufacturer is bringing the fight to the Big Three. It is known that General Motors, Ford, and the Chrysler Group corner the largest portion of the United States truck market. While these three car makers are known for their big cars, Toyota is better known for its affordable, reliable, fuel efficient small cars. Recently though, the Japanese car manufacturer came up with a redesigned Tundra truck which is considered as a strong contender in the truck market. The Tundra comes in different trim levels - the most expensive of which is the CrewMax.
The initial reaction towards the Tundra is that it is a good competitor but needs to be improved to gain supremacy over the trucks manufactured by the Big Three. But for those who are looking for more power with the Tundra, aftermarket parts like Magnaflow components can be integrated to the Tundra for a better performance. The CrewMax is the biggest of the Tundras and it is of course obvious that it has the most powerful engine in the Tundra lineup. In fact, the power produced by the CrewMax’s engine would need something like a BMW brake booster to control it efficiently.
According to Toyota’s website, here are the specs for the three engine choices for the Tundra:
Engine 1
4.0L DOHC 24V V6 with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i)
236 Horsepower @ 5200 rpm
266 Torque @ 4000 rpm (lb.-ft.)
Aluminum block with aluminum heads. Acoustically Controlled Induction System (ACIS) – dual stage intake manifold
Compression ratio: 10.0:1
Emissions: LEV II
Recommended fuel: 87 octane or higher
Engine 2
4.7L DOHC 32V i-FORCE V8 with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i)
271 Horsepower @ 5400 rpm
313 Torque @ 3400 rpm (lb.-ft.)
Cast-iron block with aluminum heads. Acoustically Controlled Induction System (ACIS) – dual stage intake manifold
Compression ratio: 10.0:1
Tow hitch receiver, 7-pin connector, trailer brake control prewire, supplemental transmission cooler, transmission temperature gauge, 4.100 rear axle ratio,
Emissions: ULEV II
Recommended fuel: 87 octane or higher
Engine 3
5.7L DOHC 32V i-FORCE V8 with Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i)
381 Horsepower @ 5600 rpm
401 Torque @ 3600 rpm (lb.-ft.)
Aluminum block with aluminum heads. Acoustically Controlled Induction System (ACIS) – dual stage intake manifold
Compression ratio: 10.2:1
Tow hitch receiver, 7-pin connector, trailer brake control prewire, supplemental transmission cooler, TOW/HAUL mode, transmission temperature gauge, 4.300 rear axle ratio
Emissions: ULEV II
Recommended fuel: 87 octane or higher
The CrewMax has a starting price of $29,675 for the two-wheel drive version while for the four-wheel drive version, pricing starts at $32,725.
